Klassisk Bryllup fra Wisconsin Karen Feder Photography

MARGARET & TOM

BRUDEN FORTELLER: We wanted our day to be an expression of both of us as individuals and as a couple, some of it traditional and some more contemporary. Our vows were held in St. Clement church that I attended as a child and where my parents were married 37 years ago. Following the ceremony, our venue was just a few steps across the street. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center was perfect for our reception because it truly is a center for the arts and limitless creativity. We literally started with a blank slate of white walls and they helped us bring it to life. With both of us growing up with an immense appreciation of nature, we wanted to bring the outdoors inside. Every wall was its own individual forest lit in white trees and the centerpieces on each table incorporated birch logs and touches from our family and friends. Close friends of Tom's made scented candles with our monogram and these were placed at each seat. My mom and aunts created song books that held the words to a series of verses that are sung at every family wedding. They also took traditional songs such as "A Bicycle Built for Two" and "On Top of Old Smoky" and changed the words to fit our engagement and life together up until the wedding. In everything, there was a touch of my life from the Midwest and that of Tom's from California. Tom's groomsmen received Olukai sandals and Smith sunglasses gifts that reflected Tom's love of surfing and the water. They were also given a pair of Wigwam limited edition socks that came from Sheboygan and my family's business that is 109 years and four generations old. Among some of the other personal touches were matching bow ties with our color palette worn by my dad, brother and 2-year old nephew (ring bearer). As the reception began, guests could enjoy cocktails and small bites in a small garden, our outdoor haven or choose to choose to wander through the art gallery and take in the most recent art exhibits. One of the more unusual hot spots were the men's and women's bathrooms that are certainly a step outside the norm and uniquely designed by different artists.
